SECTION 3.

Sir,

Sir Edward Grey to Mr. Lew Yuk-Lin.

Foreign Office, February 21, 1911. I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 18th instant, enclosing a translation of a further telegram from the Wai-wu Pu on the subject of the Yunnan frontier question, in which your Government press for the withdrawal of the British force from the territory in dispute as a preliminary to the further discussion and settlement of the question.

His Majesty's Minister at Peking is now in communication with the Wai-wu Pu in regard to the basis for a delimitation of the frontier. I shall, however, be happy to see you to-morrow afternoon, Wednesday, the 22nd, at 3:30 P.M., and talk over the matter, though as you are already aware, His Majesty's Government consider that the negotiations must be left in the hands of Sir J. Jordan.

I am, &c.

E. GREY.
